I have a long list of Christmas books that I LOVE to read every year...The Gift of the Magi, A Charlie Brown Christmas, The Polar Express, Angelina's Christmas, and of course The Grinch! When the kids were little, I would wrap each of our Christmas books early in the season and put them in a basket under the tree. Then each night leading up to Christmas, they would take turns picking one to unwrap and read before bedtime. The kids are old enough now to know the shape of the books, so it's pointless to wrap them. But I still have a basket full of them and we still read one every night.
Tonight's book was Olive, the Other Reindeer. I really LOVE this little book.
The thought of that cute little dog going about her normal holiday routine, and then hearing,
"...ALL OF THE OTHER REINDEER..."
and feeling compelled to trek to the North Pole because she thought she was a REINDEER just makes me want to hug her. She's so innocent and kind-hearted that she doesn't even realize they're all helping her fly.
And, in the end, it turns out that they actually NEED her help after all! (I'm not giving it away...you'll have to read it and find out how she saves the day.)
But the moral of the story is "never underestimate the power of a little dog with a lot of determination and willingness to serve." AND "never underestimate the amazing influence of music!"
Thanks, Olive, for saving Christmas and getting Santa back home safely!! And thanks for inspiring us every Christmas!!
My kids love this movie....we have not read the book. We all sat down and watched it this past weekend, along with Charlie Brown.
ReplyDeleteOh NO! Did I seriously MISS Charlie Brown on TV??? Darn!!
