How to Have a Lovely Day

I saw this on Pinterest this morning and LOVED it.
It is totally and completely accurate.

I have figured out, during this very lazy summer, that the sunny-ness of my disposition is in direct proportion to the amount of time I have taken to get ready in the morning.   On the days that I lounge in bed for a really long time and then putter around the house all day in sweats with my hair up in a pony, I find myself gradually getting more and more gloomy.  I'm sure that's because every time I walk past a mirror and see how un-lovely I look, it chips away at my desire to be charming.

Appearance isn't everything of course, but getting ready for the day definitely has an effect on my outlook.  I'm much more likely to smile and make eye contact when I've brushed my teeth and put on a little lipgloss.  I'm much more likely to give a compliment when I feel confident about myself.  I'm much more likely to open the door and connect with a neighbor when I haven't been laying on the couch all morning in sweats.

In the mornings, I always pray for opportunities to connect, to uplift, and to use my little handful of talents to be an instrument in Heavenly Father's hands.  This little list makes all that stuff so much easier.

So...let's put on a little perfume and HAVE A LOVELY DAY!  :)

  1. Could not agree more! Surprise, right? ; )
But really, I am exactly the same...I have to be up and showered and at least dressed with a little splash of Amazing Grace by Philosophy to feel ready to start the day.

My sweet mother always reminds me that to take care of my family, I need to take care of myself first. And that is why I sneak a few afternoon naps in too!

A few more words of wisdom from my mom...When you look good, you feel good! : )

Happy Day, bloggy friend from across the miles.

    1. I love your mom's words of wisdom! A long time ago, I had an older and wiser friend tell me to get myself ready for the day before I even picked up a toy or did a load of laundry or made the bed. That way, if someone drops by unannounced, the house may not be beautiful, but YOU will and that's what they'll remember.

Loved your "Meeting them where they are" post. I thought about the things you said and they have already made a difference in Emma's day. :)

  2. Wonderful post! And just the reminder I needed after a long worrisome week last week. (My boy was sick, but much better now.) I am wearing awful worn out jean shorts and a baggy t-shirt today. It is not pretty...

  3. Second try at posting...
I absolutely agree! The baggier and saggier I look, I end up feeling the same way emotionally. It's a It's tough one because some days I need the "down" time. I just want to feel comfy and relaxed. But it can be quietly adductive to feel so and dress so. Before I know I look in the mirror and wonder who that person looking back at me is :). Perfume. I give it as much importance as deoderant! Lol

    1. Yes, "baggy and saggy" are quietly addictive for me, too. And then all of a sudden I'm at the end of a day where my greatest accomplishment was clearing out the programs on the DVR.
