Okay so yeah I just tried typing that into Google translate to make sure I was saying everything right and it sounds so awful. So back to English, I guess! Lol I tried.
So anywho, on Wednesday we went to Rathaus to sing carols to everyone at the Weihnachtsmarkt with a ton of other missionaries, and we gave out like a million Christmas.mormon.org cards and copies of the Book of Mormon! I was seriously so proud of myself because I gave out 4 copies of the Book of Mormon with conversations! They were all English to English speakers... But still! :) I'm making a lot of progress here with my German, and my patience! I have to pray and pray and pray constantly, but Heavenly Father is molding me into something better and new! :) It's pretty exciting. We have a few investigators we are teaching, and we set two new baptism dates! But mostly we are trying to gain the trust of the members, and we just find and find and find! Talking to everyone on every train, bus, and street we are on! And we ring every doorbell outside every building until someone lets us in. (haha) Sister Jest is a really good example to me of not being afraid to talk to anyone, or practice my German in the real world! (Haha) Our investigators and the members are also super nice and helpful with my nicht so gut German
skills.
So I'll share a miracle moment of the week! If you know me then you know that I have a very big personality that can sometimes clash with other personalities. (haha) Sister Jest and I were definitely clashing a lot and it was super difficult to really get anything done because we just always had so much tension between us. Once again I have been put with a companion who is also the oldest child and dominantly red. (haha)
But a couple days ago, when we were literally about to kill each other, we were both like completely struck with the spirit and realized how dumb it was that we weren't getting along. I have been praying for so long now for patience and to become more Christlike, and I finally realized that Heavenly Father has put me in a perfect situation to start practicing that. After lots of tears and hugs, we both were determined to be kinder to each other and unify our purpose. (She said she still hates Americans but we will work on that). As I've
seen with my companionship in the MTC with Sister Mickelsen, two strong personalities, when they learn to work hard together and bend their will to serve the Lord's purposes, can become like a dream team! You can't get anything done when the spirit isn't with you, and the spirit does not dwell in unholy places! I was thinking about a story about Joseph Smith that I remembered, where he was trying to translate one day and nothing was coming! It was probably so frustrating for him, and then he remembered that he had had an argument with Emma before that never got cleared up! I always thought it was so crazy that just because he had a little argument with her he couldn't translate! But now I can definitely relate. This week we are going to focus way more on strengthening our companionship, so we can get to work and see our area start to boom!
For personal study I have been reading the memorials of the apostles that have passed away this year, and they are soo good! Boyd K. Packer, Richard G. Scott, and L. Tom Perry are such wonderful examples of how to live a Christlike life. Go read them if you haven't already! I have tried to apply a lot of the things I read to my life, like taking on challenges with an eternal perspective, and being an example everywhere I go, in word and deed and action, no matter who is watching, and I especially love all the cute parts about how they speak so lovingly about their wives! It's so sweet! I also challenge all of you to watch the two Christmas videos on Christmas.mormon.org if you haven't already. They can really bring the spirit into your
home, especially the one with all the children talking! :)
Thank you for your emails and your prayers :) I love y'all!!
Tschüß!

Translation of the German words:
Rathaus is just a place in Vienna. It literally means counsel house. It's like a giant castle thing or capital building. It's cool! I'll try and send a bunch of pics! And a weihnachtsmarkt is a Christmas market!! Imagine like the 24th of July celebration in Mendon, but huger and Christmassy, and a million of them all over Dallas. I don't even know what to compare it to. They're huge and awesome!
